Training update – u9 to u11

At the last Non-Executive meeting, the question was asked regarding the coaching of U9’s to U11’s at Len Shearer on a Tuesdays afternoon as per the current coaching program until the conclusion of States.

The decision was to trial the training of U9’s to U11’s, however the training will only be for those who have qualified for States from Zones. The training will only proceed with a coach being supplied from each Club to assist and manage the training program. The training of the U12’s to U17’s will continue as is and if the U12 to U17 athlete numbers are low the coaches may assist with the training of U9’s to U11’s.

Noting the current athlete numbers at training, training will be from 5:00pm to 6:00pm for all athletes for Tuesday only. Middle distance will remain as it is for U12’s to U17’s and seniors athletes. Middle distance for U9’s to U11’s will be completed on a Tuesday, if required.

Please remember this is a trial and once States is completed training will be for National representatives and conclude 18th Mar for Track and Field and 19th for Middle distance.

The Wheelbarrow man comes to training

David Baird (aka the wheelbarrow man) came to middle distance training on Wednesday night. David set a Guinness record in 2008 by running 4115km from Sydney to Perth with a wheelbarrow. He talked about what it was like running a marathon a day for 112days. He gave the middle distance training group great insight into a “never say die” mindset and how to manage adversity. The group concluded that “ordinary people can do extraordinary stuff”.
