Entry to the State Relays is through Melville Centre selection and will be based on an athlete’s performance and ability as assessed by the coaches. The Coaching Co-ordinator may delegate team selections to individual coaches but will maintain overarching authority where a dispute may be raised. Melville Little Athletics Centre has established comprehensive selection criteria for relays and are detailed in the Melville By-Laws.
Track events at the State Relay Championships are as follows:
- 4 x 100m (under -8 to under-17)
- 4 x 200m (under-8 to under-10)
- 4 x 400m (under-11 to under-17)
Field events are for under-10 to under-17 age groups only. Athletes compete in four events as determined by WA Little Athletics from the following:
- Triple jump
- Long jump
- Javelin
- Shot put
- Discus
Each Centre is eligible to nominate one team (minimum of four, maximum of five) for the track events. For field events, one team of either two, three or four competitors is allowed. Athletes competing in track events are not allowed to compete in the field events.
