Melville Roar is an athletics centre based at Len Shearer Reserve in Booragoon. It provides opportunities for little athletes aged 5 to 16 years to train and compete, as well as senior training groups.
Little Athletics is a fun, social and active program for girls and boys aged 5 to 16. There is a wide range of events from running, jumping, throwing and walking. Events are modified to suit the age, development and ability of the children.
Little Athletics promotes that it is important to “Be your Best”. The emphasis is on fun, participation, performance, technique and getting involved with your family in physical activity.
Melville Little Athletics Centre holds weekly interclub competition at Len Shearer on Saturday mornings from October to March each year. We run two programs that alternate over the season, allowing everyone the opportunity to compete in their favourite event regularly. Cross Country and Road Walking events are offered during winter at various venues around Perth where both little athletes and seniors compete under the Centre.
There are four clubs that compete at Melville Little Athletics Centre on a Saturday morning. These are Brentwood, Leeming, Olympia and Palmyra-Bicton. You join to an individual club when you register and it is this clubs uniform you wear for competition each week.
At Melville we offer Little Athletics from Under 6 to Under 17. Your age group is determined by your age at the 31 December. You will need to provide proof of age when you register.
For 2021/2022 registration age groups are as follows:
Seniors compete in weekly athletics competitions for Athletics West throughout October – March, predominantly on Friday evenings at the WA Athletics Stadium in Mt Claremont. Senior athletes must be 11 years age and over as at the 31 December.
