Registration Information

Any parents who wish to nominate their little athletes for the Zones Championships will need to complete and submit a Zones Nomination. Forms can be obtained from your club representative. Make sure you have the correct nomination form for your little athlete’s age group (eg. U10B). Multiple events can be entered on the form, but a separate forms needs to be completed for each athlete. For event times, please refer to the program of events, because we have noticed errors on the day / time of events listed on the nomination forms.

Completed forms need to be personally handed to Michelle Adamson (roster co-ordinator) by the parent / care-giver. Please note that no electronic submission of nomination forms will be accepted. Nomination forms will only be processed once the parent / care-giver has signed up for a roster at the Zones competition.

We advise all parents to keep a record of which events they have nominated for their little athletes, as well as which roster they have agreed to complete.

General Information – especially for Parents / Athletes who are new to Little Athletics

The Zones Championships are an opportunity – at the end of the season – for Melville little athletes to compete against athletes from other Little Athletics Centres. In our Zone, Melville will compete against other centres from the southern suburbs of Perth – Belmont, Southern Districts and Gosnells.

Athletes can choose which events they compete in at the Zones Championships. There is a maximum number of events in which an athlete can compete – which varies depending on the age group – but they must nominate before the event. The closing date for nominations is Saturday 9th February – see above for details.

The Zones Championships this year are being held at the Langford Park Sporting Complex, Gosnells (see below). Parking is accessible off Wingrove Road.

The Championships are held over two days – Saturday 9th March & Sunday 10th March. The timetable for events is available. Parents need to be aware that marshalling times – 20 minutes before track events and 35 minutes before field events – are strictly adherred to, to assure the program continues to run to schedule.

In many of the track events the program will show the time for heats, and the time for the final for those who qualify. For athletes in the U7 – U9 age groups, the first three finishers in the final at Zones Championships are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

For athletes in the U10 – U15 age groups, the Zones Championship is the qualifying event for the State Championships. An athlete must have a performance recorded during the Zones Championships to progress through to the State Championships. The number of qualifiers for the State Championships is at the discretion WA Little Athletics, but in previous years has been the first 7 finishers in each event, with the exception of throws events where the first 6 finishers have qualified.

All athletes will need to compete in a Melville Roar orange singlet, black shorts and white socks. Remember  – ‘Skins’ are not permitted, neither are branded shorts – plain black only. You will need to transfer the registration number and the age group number (eg. U12) from the club singlet to the Melville singlet for Zones and also for States. (Note – U7 to U9 athletes are permitted to compete at Zones in their Club singlet)

There is no entry fee for Zones Championships for little athletes registered to compete at Melville Little Athletics Centre. All parents of competing athletes will be expected to help out on a roster for this event.
