Roar Update

The first 4 Melville Roar competitions are now complete. Thank you to all the volunteers for making the start to the season a success. Congratulations to the athletes on some great performances and many PB’s already. Keep an eye out for your results via Results HQ.

Some of our Melville Roar athletes competed at the WA All Schools championships this weekend. Congratulations to all our athletes that competed and best of luck to those representing the state at the Australian All Schools Championships to be held in Perth during the month of December.

What’s coming up:

  • Relay selection for both track and field. Keep an eye out for emails and also the noticeboard at the track on competition day
  • State Relay Championships will be on the 14th December
  • Junior Athletics Carnival – Under 6’s to Under 9’s at Ern Clark Athletics Centre, Cannington. Registration closes 13 November. Find out more via the WA Little Athletics website via this link.

The State Track & Field Relay Championships will be held on Sat 14th Dec’19

Track Events

  • U8 – 10s compete in 4x 100m & 4x 200m
  • U11s – U16/17s compete in 4x 100m & 4 x 400m

Field Events

  • U9 – 10s: Discus, Shot, Long Jump, Turbo Javelin
  • U11 – 12s: Discus, Shot, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U13G: Shot, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U13B: Discus, Shot, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U14s: Shot, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U15s: Shot, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U16/17G: Shot, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump
  • U16/17B: Shot, Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump

Track Team Selection:

  • In the first 4 weeks of the MAC season, all athletes will have the opportunity to have two times recorded for the 100m, 200m or 400m
  • At the conclusion of the first 4 weeks the 5 fastest available runners will be named as the team, with the final team selection to be determined by the coach
  • Eligible athletes have the right to withdraw their availability, but must do so by the end of week 5 of the MAC season. If an athlete withdraws their availability after the commencement of week 6 of the MAC season they will be ineligible for selection to a field relay team

Field Team Selection:

  • In the first 4 weeks of the MAC season, all athletes will have the opportunity to have two distances recorded in eligible relay events in their respective age group
  • At week 6 of MAC competition the 4 best athletes (1 athlete per event) that have not committed to a track relay team will be named as the field relay team
  • Eligible athletes have the right to withdraw their availability, but must do so by the end of week 7 of the MAC season
  • If an athlete has accepted to compete for track selection they will be ineligible for selection to the field relay team

So, just a reminder, for those hoping to participate in the State Relay Championships, results in the next 2 weeks of competition (Wk 3 & 4) are important as each athlete’s PB (in eligible events) over the first 4 weeks will be considered for the Relay team selections.

Events: THROWS x3, LJ & TJ, SPRINTS & HURDLES

  • WEEKLY from: Tue 1 Oct
  • Time: 5.00pm to 6.30pm
  • Where: Len Shearer Reserve
  • All U12+ MAC registered athletes (2019-20 season) are welcome to attend

NB: U11s are permitted to attend HJ training ONLY (training for all other events is available for U11s at Clubs)

Middle Distance Training 12 and over

  • Middle Distance training will start for the new Summer Season this week!
  • Ross will run it each Wed from Wed 25 Sept starting at 4.30pm until 5.45pm at Len Shearer Reserve
  • All U12+ MAC registered athletes (2019-20 season) are welcome to attend

Pls note: this is strictly for U12+ athletes

  • (NO younger athletes are permitted to attend unless individually invited to & approved by the Exec Committee)
  • Training for all other events will commence the following week (further details will follow)
  • Clubs will advise details of U6-11 training

SUCCESS IN NATIONAL RACE WALKING
It’s always wonderful to see our young stars spreading their wings & competing beyond Melville.

Congratulations to our Palmyra Bicton LAC athlete Xavier Bernard who has recently won the silver medal at the 2019 Australian Race Walking National Championships in Adelaide.
Result: Boys 3km Road Walk Under 14 2nd. Bernard, Xavier WA 15:40.08 PB 0:30
