At Melville Athletics Club, our community is built on family, fitness, and helping every athlete “Be Your Best”. Our weekly interclub competitions at Len Shearer Reserve simply cannot operate without the incredible support of our parent rosters and adult helpers.
You don’t need any prior experience as our key officials at each event will provide all the instructions and guidance you need on the day.
As a minimum, you will be required to commit to 6 rosters throughout the season between 7:15am and midday, depending on the role. Please ensure you provide details of dates you are not available asap so that every attempt can be made to roster you accordingly. If you are unable to attend your roster, or swap with a suitably skilled replacement, you are able to pay a roster relief teen to undertake the role on your behalf.
Please note: You are not guaranteed the roster duty position you provide your preference for at registration, so please ensure you read the roster carefully when it is distributed. The roster relief going rate is $50 per roster and needs to be paid directly to the athlete (or their parent) prior to commencement.
Here are the roles that you could be required to fulfil to keep things running smoothly each Saturday morning;
- Age Managers: Guide our young athlete groups to their scheduled event stations and keep them organized. Note: This is for U7-U9 age groups only.
- Key Jumps Officials (Long, Triple & High Jump): Judging and recording jumps, while organising general helpers to rake sand, measure, and reset.
- Key Throws Officials (Discus, Shot Put & Javelin): Judging and recording throws, while organising general helpers to mark and measure throws, and reset.
- Track Officials & Hurdles: Place lane cones and set up or reset hurdles between heats.
- Starters & Marshalling: Call out athlete names to line them up before their races begin, and assist the starting official.
- Time Keeping & Place Judging: Help track officials record running times and verify the finishing order at the finish line.
- Walking Judges: Assist the key walking judge by watching and judging the walking technique and tracking lap counts.
- Recording: Write down or enter times into the laptop to capture everyone’s new personal bests.
- Canteen & BBQ: Keep our hungry families and athletes fuelled by serving refreshments and cooking up the BBQ.
By completing your required rosters throughout the season, you play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment. Thank you for helping our athletes build lifelong friendships and confidence on the track!
